We are going back to the beginning of everything and boy, Dudley is doing awesome!
He gets super excited to see his Freedom No Pull Harness because he knows already that means we will be working his mind.
Right now we are working very slowly and Dudley gets rewarded for being on all 4's or hello sitting!!! and making eye contact. My heart melts every time he makes eye contact, he is just so sweet. It is also saddening because you can tell he has seen and been through a lot that most could never survive. He is one very special, loving boy.
Excited to see what our tomorrow holds :)
Dudley is doing wonderfully and has been lucky to have one of the most busy foster moms around so his blog has been quite neglected, he however has come along so nicely and is quite the adorable & gorgeous boy that it is shocking he still has not found an adoptive home.
We are ok with that of course but a little shocking to us as he still waits with no interest.
We do have a bit of an update on our boy, not the best update tho. We took Dudley for a visit to our trainer yesterday, Pawsitively Motivating. He had a great time but we did learn that we have more work cut out for us than we thought. Dudley may have brain damage or issues due to poor breeding that causes his brain to not function like a "normal" or "average" dog. This is something we will be working diligently to discover the ins and outs of but he has been receptive to very slow, focused training. We are essentially doing a complete rewind and starting fresh with his basic obedience training. Dudley will also be going through the NILF training. What is that you ask? Nothing In Life Is Free. Greatly hoping that with thorough work with our guy that we can also chronicle his training with photos, he is not always the easiest boy to get photos of because he is one bouncy little fella!
Stay tuned for more updates!!
He is up to 35 lbs, looking good and was his normal self, behaved yet hyped to see everyone!
We confirmed that Dudley does seem to be ok with his sight, that he is just a clutz. <3
As we shared before on Dudley's blog he needs to go for x-rays that will cost about $270 to have done, the vet today brought up that he may very well have hip displaysia and while he may not be experiencing pain (or showing it) right now that if that is what is going on he will certainly be in pain in the future. This truly breaks my (foster mommy) heart. Dudley is about 2-3 yrs old so he has a lot of time to recover from-we know he was certainly used as a bait dog previous to coming to us and also had an embedded collar, he is so sweet but he is still very scared about a lot of things and is having such a hard time focusing enough to learn any amount of training. I will never give up on him but he is not the most adoptable boy right now and it makes me so sad every day to consider what he had gone through. He is such an innoncent soul, he never deserved what he was given prior to coming to us, he has shown nothing but love to us in the last month since he came home to us.
If you would be interested in donating towards Dudley's x-rays we would greatly appreciate it! You can use his Chip In Page to donate.
He is a hyper little guy so he is always running, running, running so it's been slow to put weight on.
He does have his follow up vet visit on August, 9th where he will have his booster vaccines and look further into his legs. Dudley's legs are seemingly getting worse or more visible as he has put on weight. It does not seem to really phase him and does not cause him pain. Another issue we did take note on was he may have difficulty seeing in at least one eye but we will look further into that at his upcoming visit as well.
Regardless, Dudley is the happiest little guy that we just absolutely adore!
Dudley will be entering the Bow Wow Beauty Pageant on August 6th! We hope you can come out and cheer him on!
Dudley does not seem in the least bit affected by his legs, almost as if it is something he is just used to dealing with. It took a few tries to get it on video because if he is "trotting" along on a walk like he usually does you can't even notice or if he is running, again not noticeable. Only when he is walking slow or tiring out is it noticeable.
It is so hot but my foster mom takes me out to hang out in the shade and I LOVE rolling around in the grass, especially today because my foster dad cut the grass so it was all over me!
I am starting to feel better and my foster mom says I look much better too, kennel cough stinks! I am so excited to be all better so I can play with the other dogs here, I can hear them but my foster mom says we need to be careful so they don't get sick too-I would not want that, this stinks.
My face and neck are a lot less itchy too, all of my scabs are falling off or have fallen off. And geez does my foster mom say she loves me a lot, I haven't ever heard that before coming here! :)
Love, Dudley-the Great!
Dudley was found in abandoned lot after being used as a bait dog, having hot black tar poured on his wounds and what was obviously a horrible past. Dudley's large, heavy collar was also embedded into his neck.
We went to meet Dudley at the Philadelphia Animal Control facility where he was taken after being found. The shelter staff could not say enough great things about Dudley and it didn't take long for us to realize ourselves just what a great boy he is, regardless of all he had been put through.
Dudley arrived in the afternoon of 7.8.2011 to his foster home and shortly after started coughing, he had kennel cough. After 1 week in his foster home he was taken to the vet to check on his kennel cough and well being, he was very frightened but was a very good boy! Sadly in addition to Dudley's visible wounds on his face and neck and his kennel cough the vet also noticed that he has something wrong with his rear legs. It appears that Dudley either lived his life kenneled 24 hours a day or sustained an injury that went without treatment. We will never know what Dudley endured in his past but we do know we certainly love him a lot! Once Dudley recovers from his kennel cough and puts on some weight he will go for x-rays to determine what is wrong with his rear legs.
It has been a very busy week since Dudley's arrival but we plan to update his blog so that we can share his journey from being used as a bait dog to being where he belongs -with a loving family.
